In a beautiful show of unity and appreciation, the City of Dublin, California once again took a moment to recognize and honor its Muslim community. On April 15, 2025, the City Council officially proclaimed April as American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month—an annual tradition that continues to reflect the city’s commitment to inclusivity and cultural recognition.
A Night of Pride and Community
The City Council meeting had a special energy that evening. Local leaders, community members, and allies gathered—some in person at the Civic Center, others tuning in online—to witness the proclamation presentation. Representing the Muslim community, Dr. Jamilah Friday and our very own board member Minara El-Rahman delivered thoughtful remarks that highlighted the everyday contributions Muslims make to the city’s civic life, neighborhoods, and culture.
It wasn’t just about formality—it was about connection. This was a moment for the Muslim community to feel seen, valued, and supported.
More Than Just Dublin
Dublin’s proclamation is part of something even bigger. That same night, other cities across the Bay Area—like Berkeley, Fremont, and San Jose—also issued proclamations in honor of Muslim Appreciation Month. It’s a growing statewide effort, and it’s amazing to see so many communities come together to uplift their Muslim neighbors.
Why This Matters
This kind of public recognition might seem small, but it means a lot. It’s a powerful reminder that diversity is something to be celebrated, not just tolerated. In a time when misunderstanding and division can dominate headlines, these proclamations are a way for cities like Dublin to stand up for unity, empathy, and shared humanity.
The Muslim community continues to play an essential role in shaping the cultural and social fabric of Dublin, and this proclamation is just one way to say: “We see you. We appreciate you.”
